In Minneapolis verklagen jetzt die Bürger die Stadtverwaltung wegen zu geringer Polizeipräsenz, nachdem die Stadtverwaltung die Polizei „defunded” hat.

Eight Minneapolis residents are suing the city council over a lack of police presence amid spikes in violent crime in the city, according to local news reports.

The residents are blaming the council’s calls to defund the police after George Floyd’s May 25 death and argue that the city has not said how many officers are currently on the ground to meet a minimum requirement for protecting residents, according to WCCO.

The Minneapolis City Council members in June voted to completely dismantle the city’s police department and replace it with a community safety program.

The council has since changed its stance amid a surge in violent crime and carjackings in Minneapolis.

Officers who have decided to retire or work elsewhere during or following the months of civil unrest in the city said their discontent, in part, was a result of leaders’ political agendas and calls for law enforcement to be defunded, reported KOMO News, which examined the exit interviews.

This agenda sacrifices the health and well-being of the officers and ultimately will destroy the fabric of this once fine city,” explained an outgoing patrol sergeant who had decided to retire after more than two decades with SPD, according to the report. “You could pay me twice what you’re paying me now and I would not work for Seattle under this current political mayhem, Marxist collaborations, and lack of government and police leadership,” the officer wrote.
