Mortalitätsrate Corona-Virus bei 11% ?
Aus Australien kommen gerade neue Nachrichten zum Corona-Virus.
Es heißt jetzt laut news.com.au in einer Studie, dass die Mortalitätsrate viel höher sei als bisher dargestellt, nämlich bei 11%, und dass Männer öfter infiziert werden als Frauen.
The mortality rate of the coronavirus may be much higher than previously thought, according to new research published in medical journal The Lancet.
There are confirmed coronavirus cases in 25 countries – including Australia – with 305 people dying from the virus.
The study, released on January 30, looked at 99 people treated in isolation at Jinyintan Hospital between January 1 and January 20 after having been transferred from other hospitals across Wuhan, where the outbreak began.
Almost half of the group, comprising 32 women and 67 men aged from 21 to 82, had a history of exposure to the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market, where 2019-nCov is believed to jumped from animals to humans.
Most, including a married couple, were vendors or market managers but two were shoppers who had visited the market only briefly.
By January 25, 32 of the patients had been discharged, 57 remained in hospital but 11 had died.
Das kann man jetzt anzweifeln und fragen, ob das überhaupt eine repräsentative Stichprobe ist. Aber bessere Daten wird man beim derzeitigen Stand ja auch nicht finden können, das ist ja alles erst am Anfang.

Allerdings geben sie ja auch selbst zu, dass man das zum derzeitigen Zeitpunkt noch gar nicht sagen kann, wie hoch die Mortalitätsrate ist.
Und eigentlich ist die Zahl der Toten noch gar nicht groß genug für ernsthafte statistische Aussagen. Wenn auf dem Markt erst mal besonders viele Männer angesteckt wurden, oder da irgendwo besonders viele alte kranke Männer lebten, kann sich das durchaus auswirken.
Oder wie ein bekannter Blogger so gerne sagt: Eine Korrelation ist noch keine Kausalität.

The researchers concluded that the people most likely to contract the new coronavirus were older men with underlying health problems.
To date, more than 9500 people have been infected with the virus worldwide, including nine in Australia, and more than 213 people have died, all of them in China.
Vorerkrankungen und Raucher. Vielleicht sind Männer da nicht per se anfälliger, sondern es gibt in China unter Männern mehr Herzkranke, Diabetiker und Raucher.
Schauen wir mal, wie das aussieht, wenn das in statistisch aussagefähige Größenordnungen kommt.
Aber irgendwie sind so statistische Schlussfolgerungen auf zu kleinen und nicht repräsentativen Stichproben einfach herrlich gruselig, perfekter click bait.
